Certificate in Christian and Classical Studies

Certificate in Christian and Classical Studies

Program Description

The Certificate in Christian and Classical Studies is an 18-credit certificate that covers the “Classical studies” curriculum featured in the Master of Arts (Christian and Classical Studies) program.

Who is it for?

Everyone with a passion for the Bible and the Great Books that helped shape Western, Christian civilization and thought.

This curriculum is indispensable for educators across the spectrum – private and public schools, Christian and Classical academies, home school instructors and professional tutors.

You will engage in what scholars and philosophers have referred to as “The Great Conversation,” a dialogue among some of the sharpest minds and noblest ideas of the past 2,500 years.

Topics covered include:

  • Education, Justice and Social Order from Plato’s Republic
  • Ethics, Virtue and Community from Aristotle
  • God’s sovereign preparation of the Hellenized world to receive the Gospel as read by the Greeks, including Aristophanes, Aeschylus, Euripides, and Sophocles.
  • Natural law and apologetics from Thomas Aquinas
  • Worship and reflections on God from Augustine and Bernard of Clairvaux
  • The Christian imagination from Dante, Milton, and Shakespeare
  • And much, much more!
