Knox Theological Seminary President Dr. Ronald Kovack Announces Retirement

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fl., March 1, 2012 – Dr. Ronald Kovack has announced that he will be retiring as the President of Knox Theological Seminary, concluding three years at the helm of the institution.

Dr. Kovack was elected to the office of president in the spring of 2009. He has cited age and health concerns as reasons for his retirement. His retirement will be effective in June, 2012 at the conclusion of the spring semester and commencement.

The Board of Directors has formed an active search committee to find his successor and Dr. Kovack will work to ensure that the transition goes smoothly.

Dr. Kovack has been a member of the Knox Board of Directors since the inception of the seminary in March of 1989. He will remain on the Board and continue to serve as a consultant. The Board of Knox offered praise for Dr. Kovack’s leadership during the past three years as well as his important role as a founding director. “I would like to express my deep appreciation for Dr. Kovack’s willingness to remain on the Board after his retirement as President,” said Chairman of the Board Dr. Luder Whitlock.

Under Dr. Kovack’s administration, the seminary was guided through a period of distress following the death of beloved Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Pastor Dr. D. James Kennedy in the fall of 2007. Dr. Kovack is credited with increasing endowments, leading the school through the accreditation renewal process in 2011, and seeing an expansion of the seminary through the launch of a distance education initiative, Knox Virtual, that is poised to bring a seminary education to students and missionaries around the world.

Throughout the years, Dr. Kovack has been a member of and has served as clerk of the session at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and as an interim executive director of Coral Ridge Ministries, now Truth in Action Ministries. Dr. Kovack holds a Doctor of Ministry in non-profit management from Liberty University in Virginia and a Ph.D. in management from Trinity Theological Seminary.

Some of Dr. Kovack’s most prominent characteristics are his strengths in the area of big vision leadership and his genuine love for seeing Knox students being trained in the Word of God and going forth to proclaim the gospel to all nations of the world.

Knox Theological Seminary would like to offer a sincere thanks to Dr. Kovack for the leadership, dedication, and service that he and his wife Priscilla have given to not only Knox but also to the sister ministries of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Evangelism Explosion, and Westminster Academy over the last 37 years.
